Igneous Works (GT) have added the Portsmouth Daedalus site to their portfolio of work for MoD SFA housing. The contract for 150 kitchen refurbishments will see them installing their pioneering “Top that fits on Top” worktops on the kitchen surfaces as well as replacing all the doors, panels etc. to give the kitchen a brand-new look.
“It was the enthusiastic feedback we had from the DIO Accn. and their Housing Estates Officers which alerted us to the great work that Igneous Works (GT) were doing and their innovative approach” Geoff Moffatt, Vercity
This new approach to kitchens offered by Igneous Works (GT) will generate tonnes of savings in reduction of landfill and CO2 emissions through the avoidance of the “rip-out and throw away culture” which is often unnecessary. This dovetails perfectly as part of the bigger project on the site to move to a greener and more sustainable housing, with the target of saving over 100 tonnes from landfill and over 80 tonnes from avoidable CO2 emissions.
“Our approach reduces the amount of work required on site and reduces the cost of additional trades. This in turn can be invested back into the kitchen by improving its performance through better quality materials and finishing” Matthew Bird, Igneous Works (GT)
Their stone worksurfaces are made from recycled quarry waste and recycled glass bottles which include Microban® for added protection and give a far superior finish and are exceedingly hard-wearing. All the new doors are fitted with soft-close hinges and new drawers are more robust and include soft-closing mechanisms. These elements not only give the kitchen a quality feel, but will also reduce on-going maintenance costs since they help to protect the kitchen from damage.
Bringing a consistent approach to multiple sites also helps in the reduction of waste and it helps in maintaining a quality and standard to all client properties for the benefits of tenants.
